When your battery dies, the closest place that sells one is tempting. For a lot of everyday cars, an auto parts store can do the job. Here’s when a battery specialist makes more sense, and what to ask wherever you go.
When a specialist is worth it
- You’re not sure it’s the battery. A no-start can be the battery, the alternator or a bad connection. We check your battery and charging system free of charge, so you don’t replace a battery that was fine.
- It’s not a car. Golf carts, floor scrubbers, wheelchairs, solar setups, boats and RVs often need deep-cycle batteries that general stores don’t keep on the shelf.
- It’s heavy duty. Semis, tractors and heavy equipment need batteries built for the work.
- You want it installed. We install it while you wait.
- You want the same people next time. We’ve been serving Wayne and Holmes Counties for more than 40 years.
Questions to ask wherever you buy
| Question | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Will you test the battery and the charging system first? | So you only replace what’s actually failing |
| Is this the right battery for my vehicle and climate? | The wrong fit or rating costs you twice |
| Who installs it? | Some places sell it and leave the fitting to you |
| What warranty comes with it? | Our batteries are backed by the manufacturer’s warranty |
| Do you have it in stock? | Specialty batteries can take time to order |
The bottom line
If it’s a straightforward car battery and you know that’s the problem, buy it wherever is easiest. If you’re not sure what’s wrong, or it’s for anything other than a car, come and see us first. The check is free.
